Artistic Practice

My artistic practice explores the body, its boundaries, and the fragile balance between inner realities and external appearances. Through sculpture, installation and painting, I investigate alienation, suppressed desires, and the tension between protection and exposure, often confronting figures labeled as strange, excluded, or taboo.

In my work, these “freaks” function as mirrors through which I channel personal disappointment, anger, and emotional distance toward societal norms. By observing them from a metaphorical distance and reflecting them back onto the world, I question how cultural narratives define otherness. Since perceptions of strangeness vary across societies, I am particularly drawn to the aesthetic and emotional potential embedded within cultural difference.

Recurring motifs such as nails, shells, spikes, thorns, trees, and fragmented bodies act as metaphors for fragility, defense, and transformation. These sharp and protective natural forms symbolize psychological and social boundaries, while also revealing vulnerability beneath their surfaces. Material and concept are inseparable in my practice: stone and metal express resistance and permanence, while latex, fabric, and biomaterials emphasize permeability, change, and the instability of the body.

I recreate and transform these beings within my own imaginative world as a form of inner cleansing. By reintroducing elements associated with repression or abnormality, I examine how viewers respond—through discomfort, shame, humor, or unexpected affection. My works often aim to provoke tension, surprise, and moments of mental dissonance, while revealing the beauty hidden within what is perceived as abnormal.

Artworks visual language is playful, graphic, and dynamic, drawing from animation and surreal abstraction. I reinterpret organic and urban textures, merging natural and artificial elements into forms that are both unsettling and poetic. Idioms, proverbs, and expressions from my upbringing strongly influence my visual imagination, shaping how emotion and language become material.

Currently based in Berlin, I continue to research idioms and proverbs from Turkish and neighboring cultures, exploring how their layered meanings can be translated into sculptural and performative forms. Through this process, my work confronts the viewer with the tension between discomfort and empathy, persistence and vulnerability, inviting reflection as a catalyst for personal and collective transformation.
